Research & Studies
We think the best way to earn your trust is to show you the research itself, including the parts that are uncertain. Below are independent reviews and reference sources on alkaline water, hydrogen water, and how ionizers are measured. We link directly to each one so you can read it yourself.
Molecular hydrogen
- Johnsen HM, Hiorth M, Klaveness J. "Molecular Hydrogen Therapy—A Review on Clinical Studies and Outcomes." Molecules, 2023. Reviews 81 registered clinical trials and 64 human studies. Read the review
- Dhillon G, et al. "Hydrogen Water: Extra Healthy or a Hoax?—A Systematic Review." International Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2024. Finds early results encouraging but calls for larger, long-term human trials. Read the review
- Ohsawa I, et al. "Hydrogen acts as a therapeutic antioxidant by selectively reducing cytotoxic oxygen radicals." Nature Medicine, 2007. The cell and animal study that sparked modern hydrogen research. Read the study
Alkaline water
- Alebrahim H, et al. "The health benefits of alkaline water: is it a fact or marketing myth?" Frontiers in Medicine, 2026. Concludes effects are modest, context-specific, and not a proven medical intervention. Read the review
- Mayo Clinic. "Alkaline water: Better than plain water?" Includes safety notes on very high-pH water. Read the article
- Harvard Health Publishing. "Is alkaline water better?" Read the article
How ionized water is measured
- "ORP should not be used to estimate or compare concentrations of aqueous H₂." Frontiers in Food Science and Technology, 2022. Explains why ORP readings do not measure hydrogen content. Read the article
- Molecular Hydrogen Institute. "Water Ionizers (Electrolyzers)." An overview of how ionizers produce alkaline and acidic water. Read the overview
- International Hydrogen Standards Association. Hydrogen Standards. Guidance on measuring dissolved hydrogen. Read the standards (PDF)
How to read ionizer research
- Human vs. animal studies. Results in cells or animals do not always translate to people.
- Study size and length. Many hydrogen and alkaline water studies are small and short. Larger, longer trials carry more weight.
- Who ran the study. Look for independent, peer-reviewed research, not only manufacturer-funded testing.
